Ever wish you could give users a number for a user ID instead of having to create IDs that start with a character? This would most commonly be used when an employee number or Social Security number is desired for an ID. While OS/400 requires all IDs to start with a letter, an ID that starts with a "Q" followed by a number allows a user to sign on with only the numeric portion of the ID. To the user it appears that they have a numeric user ID.
