Easy way to analyze disk occupation

Analyze disk occupation

How to transform your disk occupation data in physical file for analyzes. This is an alternative of RTVDSKINF command.

  1. Create physical file with data:
DSPOBJD OBJ(*ALL/*ALL)
OBJTYPE(*ALL)
OUTPUT(*OUTFILE)
OUTFILE(temp-library/temp-file)

A good idea is submit this command to run at night:
SBMJOB CMD(DSPOBJD OBJ(*ALL/*ALL)
OBJTYPE(*ALL) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE)
OUTFILE(temp-library/temp-file)) JOB(DISKOCCP) SCDTIME('23:00:00')

2. Main column names in temp-file:
ODLBNM Library name
ODOBNM Object name
ODOBSZ Object size

3. Use SQL to analyze data:
STRSQL (examples)
3.1. Bigger objects
select odlbnm, odobnm, odobsz from temp-library/temp-file order by odobsz desc

3.2. Size of libraries
select odlbnm,sum(odobsz) from temp-library/temp-file
group by odlbnm
order by 2 desc

3.3. Size of apllications
If you have an application formed by libraries lib1, lib2 and lib3 then
select sum(odobsz) from
temp-library/temp-file
where odlbnm in ('lib1' , 'lib2' , 'lib3')
will give you the size of application

Look to the temp-file columns and try others queries.
