Have you ever needed to know what logical files were based on a particular physical file? For example, let's say you need to rebuild a PF to add new fields. How do you find out which LFs you also have to deal with? Believe it or not (with apologies to Robert Ripley) there is an easy way. IBM (yes, IBM) has supplied us with a wonderful command, DSPDBR - display database relations. You can direct the output to the screen (default), to a printer or an outfile. If you write your own CL pgm to do the file rebuild, then sending the DSPDBR output to an outfile greatly simplifies the process.
DSPDBR FILE(library/filename) OUTPUT(*, *PRINT, or *OUTFILE)
