CRTDEVPRT command gotcha

This tip shows you what can be wrong with the CRTDEVPRT command.

CRTDEVPRT command gotcha on the paramater MSGQ you could choose *SYSOPR, here lies the problem. If you use RTVCFGSRC against the device that has *SYSOPR specified and then try to compile your program to call it to create the device it will fail with *SYSOPR message queue not found. To get around this I always use QSYSOPR and not *SYSOPR. If your like me and have a lot of printers, this is a very quick and easy way to recreate printers in your shop.
