eBusiness Solution Pros Inc. (eSP) announced that its award-winning Stay-Linked RF/wireless terminal solution now supports Symbol Technologies' new MC9000-G series, a ruggedized handheld mobile computer for data collection in supply chain environments. Stay-Linked is a real-time enterprise mobility solution that reliably extends 5250/3270 and VT screen applications running on the IBM AS/400-iSeries (and other platforms) to wireless devices.
Although Symbol's MC9000-G ships with Wavelink terminal emulation software, this default "thick-client" software solution may not be sufficient for all installations, according to Patricia Converse, eSP's vice president, sales and marketing. Stay-Linked, she added, preserves productivity for wireless data capture users and IT staff with host-server-based session persistence and centralized management.
"A mission-critical installation needs a wireless environment where the workforce can stay as productive as possible, and a client-side terminal emulator simply cannot deliver that," said Converse. "People are buying Symbol's MC9000-G because it's robust and reliable, but if the connectivity software doesn't provide adequate protection from unproductive time spent dealing with dropped wireless user sessions, users are not benefiting from these important device attributes. This is where Stay-Linked is so valuable."
With Stay-Linked, a "thin-client" software solution, all terminal emulation and client device/session control runs natively on the application host platform for optimum availability and productivity. When disruptions in wireless-device access occur, Stay-Linked keeps user scanning sessions alive on the host. As soon as wireless access is restored, users are automatically returned to their original wireless session, exactly where they were immediately prior to the disruption.
"The importance of wireless terminal emulation software is often overlooked," said Kevin Price, President of AccuCode, Inc., a Stay-Linked Certified Partner and reseller of Symbol Technologies products. "When it works, it's trivial, but when it doesn't, it can have a critical impact on productivity. By making wireless host application access as robust and reliable as the device itself, Stay-Linked maximizes the MC9000-G investment for our customers and eliminates potential support issues for us."
Added Converse, "Despite the availability of the Wavelink client-side terminal emulator on the MC9000-G, many of our customers running Stay-Linked on their existing legacy wireless devices told us they would not upgrade to this new device until we supported it. They didn't want to give up the level of reliable connectivity that Stay-Linked provides. Also, Stay-Linked is the only solution of its kind that supports configurable tap spots for stylus-driven data entry, allowing users to maximize productivity when taking advantage of this powerful MC9000-G feature."
The Stay-Linked solution is available from eSP-authorized resellers and marketed through a worldwide channel. Stay-Linked is licensed according to the maximum number of concurrently active user sessions required; the competitively priced thin-client licenses are not fixed to a specific device, and there is no limit to configured users. Stay-Linked installs quickly on host systems and is available, fully functional, on a 30-day free-trial basis.
