Bigelow site flows with ease after implementing LANSA Commerce Edition for BPCS and LANSA UCCnet Direct

PRESS RELEASE

For more than 50 years, R. C. Bigelow has introduced the world's taste buds to flavored teas and the health benefits of drinking tea. Now, by implementing LANSA Commerce Edition for BPCS, the company is reaping some benefits of its own: a more streamlined order entry process, more efficient customer service and a sales team that can enter and maintain data and review and revise a client's order history. Once LANSA UCCnet Direct is implemented, the company will also be in compliance with the newest regulations in the ever-changing retail industry.

Robert Dupree, IT director, R. C. Bigelow, said, "We were looking to move our customers to the Web. Between 80 and 90 percent of our orders came in by fax, and errors were being introduced on their end and on our end. Rechecking orders and rekeying that information was very time consuming. By taking the fax out of the picture, our customer service reps can now do other things."

The company's extranet site for its customers -- primarily brokers and distributors of Bigelow teas -- lets them view their order history, place and track orders via the Web and find sales information. This was a big help in freeing up Bigelow's customer service representatives' time. However, Bigelow's sales managers also use the extranet to handle their accounts more efficiently.

Bigelow is also keeping pace with the retail industry by implementing LANSA UCCnet Direct. This solution will let Bigelow improve its supply chain functions by implementing UCCnet's item registration and data synchronization services. UCCnet provides suppliers and trading partners with the UCCnet GLOBALregistry‰, a registry of item information that ensures all trading partners are using standards-compliant data.

Alan Christensen, LANSA's vice president, solution products, said, "LANSA's on-demand solutions were the perfect fit to extend the BPCS 6.x ERP system that runs Bigelow's business operations. LANSA Commerce Edition for BPCS leverages BPCS product, pricing and order information, and brings it to the Web for Customer Self-Service functionality. LANSA UCCnet Direct also leverages existing BPCS Item Master information used as part of the synchronization payload with Bigelow's retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Food Lion."

Dupree added, "LANSA has turned out to be the perfect solutions partner for R.C. Bigelow. The LANSA tools complement our existing software, BPCS, and hardware — the AS/400 infrastructure. In times when hiring additional staff is just not feasible, LANSA's tools are proving to be productive, flexible and easy-to-use for my current staff."
