On the heels of the release of Aldon Affiniti Version 4.0, the leading enterprise-class software configuration management (SCM) system, Aldon introduces its new IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client (WDSc) plug-in. The Aldon Affiniti WDSc plug-in enables developers to directly access Aldon Affiniti SCM functions natively from within WDSc as well as WDSc-compliant 3rd party tools, regardless of programming language or destination platform. The new plug-in is freely available to all Aldon clients for download from the Aldon Web site customer area.
The Aldon Affiniti WDSc plug-in uses all standard WebSphere Developer menu options and functions. It is a unique implementation, unleashing the full power and functionality of WDSc as it was intended by IBM. By developing a WDSc-based Team Repository (rather than a proprietary, outside vendor-based perspective) developers need no additional training to understand the user interface, the views presented, or functionality. And users still have access to Aldon Affiniti's advanced SCM features. The plug-in allows developers to perform actions like check out and check in, get latest, add, etc. simply by right clicking an activity/context menu option. A check out can even occur automatically when a developer opens a file for edit. Developers are able to work on objects (Java, HTML, XML, documents, images, etc.) from any platform as well as native iSeries objects (RPG, COBOL, DDS, CL, etc.) – all from the same WDSc user interface.
"Aldon believes in letting enterprise development teams shape their development environment. They must be allowed to choose the appropriate application systems, development methodologies, and IDEs," said Daniel Magid, president of Aldon Computer Group. "Aldon Affiniti allows development teams to continue to operate from within their native environments, automating much of the SCM process behind the scenes."
Aldon Affiniti WebSphere Studio related plug-ins – which includes support for WebSphere Studio Site Developer, WebSphere Studio Application Developer as well as WDSc – are freely available to all Aldon clients now. Suitable plug-ins can be found for both Aldon's multi-platform SCM system, Aldon Affiniti, and Aldon's native-iSeries SCM solution, Aldon/CMS. A user simply has to visit the Aldon Web site and login to the customer area to gain instant access.
