What objects are damaged?

Is there a way we can determine what objects may be damaged before they are opened? We have an iSeries 9406-825 on V5R2. Our system locked up because of a bad IOP card and one bad hard drive. Is reclaim storage our only tool?
The system will automatically generate messages for hardware damage and failures. There is no way to determine 100% if an object is damaged without actually attempting to use the object.
