View the historical data set

A few releases ago -- on V5R2 with Navigator -- I saw a "work with system" status HISTORICAL command. From the PM/400 data sets, I can easily create historical data. How exactly do I view the historical data set? (This is so I can have an afternoon off, and if something curious came up I could take a look without running reports.)
I am not sure I understand the question, but let me try and answer. There is the ability to look at graph history data via OpsNav and collection services. If you go into collection service, and then go to file and look for 'Graph History', you should be able to graph some historical data providing the collection services properties are set up to retain the data.
