Is it possible to use an OS/400 user profile for accessing an iSeries programmatically (say, OLE DB remote command execution) and restrict that user from directly signing on to the iSeries?
Yes it is. You want to create the user profile with an initial program of *NONE and initial menu of *SIGNOFF.
Here is an example create user profile command:
CRTUSRPRF USRPRF(myprofile) PASSWORD(mypassword) INLPGM(*NONE) INLMNU(*SIGNOFF)If someone tries to initiate an interactive session using this user profile, they will be immediately signed off. However, they will be allowed to initiate an ODBC/OLE DB remote connection.
