I have a client currently running V4R4 on their model 730 AS/400. They have asked me if they should go to V4R5 or V5R1? I told them that unless they had a mission-critical reason for going to V5R1 they should go to V4R5. Then, after the first CUM is released, they can consider going to V5R1. There seems to be safety and security in this approach. Either way, they lose support for V4R4 very soon. What do you think?
I think your approach is a good one. Speaking for myself, I never apply a new OS release until it has been in the public's hands for at least three months, which is usually the time the first cumulative PTF is released. IBM usually extends its support date.
