We would like to set an inactive time out for our iSeries users, however there are specific workstations and users who must be excluded from timing out -- we are a hospital. Is there a method within IBM's system where we can monitor the devices to be inactivated by SESSION, while excluding users and/or devices with the above exceptions? We are in the process of going to a new box (825) with V5R2.
You have a couple of options. You can monitor for messages sent to the message queue defined in the QINACTMSGQ and write a program to take actions based on criteria you have chosen, or you can look for a product that provides variable time-outs between jobs. Unfortunately, there's nothing integrated into the operating system that will automatically provide this function.
