What are the differences between STRDSKRGZ and STRASPBAL?
The STRDSKRGZ command came out in V4R2 and it's stated function according to IBM is "Unused space will be collected together within the ASP. This allows future large-disk allocations to be done more efficiently." That description sounds a lot like a defrag that you would do on your PC. The STRASPBAL command, which came out in V4R4, has several options and is more concerned about balancing disk utilization either by capacity, disk arm usage, or data access by drive speed. In my opinion, the STRASPBAL is more flexible and is capable of doing more to improve performance than the STRDSKRGZ command.
