What firewall security solution for the iSeries do you considered the best?
Unfortunately, you've asked a question for which there is no easy answer. First, I am assuming you're not asking...
for a firewall solution that runs on OS/400. OS/400 is too complex to make a good firewall so there are no firewall solutions running directly on OS/400. Beyond that, there is no "one size fits all" firewall solution. Considerations for which solution you choose include where you're placing the firewall in your network configuration, what services you want it to perform, such as proxy serving, network address translation, packet filtering, virus scanning, and virtual private networking, to name a few. If you are interested in an example of a firewall running in an iSeries partition running Linux, you can contact Mark Even in the Custom Technology Center at IBM Rochester, MN for a case study on how one customer made this work.
