Re-use deleted records in a file
I've got a problem in re-using the deleted records in a file. In order to get rid of the need to re-organize a physical file and keep the file size under control, I set the REUSEDLT parameter to *YES. However, I find that new records are still appended at the end of the physical file regardless of the existence of a large number of deleted records in the file. Thus the file size cannot be kept under control.
I have, for a long time, used "re-use". I have not had problems with it and deleted records space has been re-used. Maybe you should first reorganize your files before starting your job. There are circumstances where "re-use" would appear not to work. For instance, if an application creates thousands or temporary records and deletes all but a few, at the end of the file, it will look as if re-use did not work.
