Networking HMC's

One Search400.com member writes, "I have two i5/520 systems, each with its own HMC. The i5's are located two miles apart. What I'd like to do is network the HMC's so that we can a) Use either HMC to control either i5, and b) use one HMC to control both i5's. Is this possible? I've scanned the IBM Web site and various other sites but can find no definitive information on this. I believe in theory it's possible. " Systems management expert Dan Reusche responds.

Yes it is possible to network two or more HMCs together in such a way so that they can be redundant for each other. I do not know the details of how to implement, but there is a Redbook that might help. It is called Logical Partitions on the IBM PowerPC. It has some good information on how to set up HMC's.
