A client is asking "Is there a way that would allow a single PC to serve as the console for multiple AS/400 systems?" Their real estate is getting smaller and the newer 270 systems are too small to set a dedicated console on each one. The customer wants to use a PC as they need to run Remote Console and Carbon Copy.
I believe that with a WindowsNT 4.0 system, you probably could. The NT system would have to be able to execute LCS for each system -- providing dual com ports for each AS/400, thus there may be a limitation due to the hardware resources available as well as the NT service that must execute the LCS. I did this same type of configuration many years ago with OS/2 running multiple OS2/Windows sessions and separate hardware configurations, but I'm not sure how you might go about it now. I have seen it done, but they (IBM) wouldn't let me ask any questions about what was operating, nor how they were configured. This was at one of the ops centers in Rochester and another in Atlanta. I would assume that if you search a little, you should be able to find a TIE line that will get you to either Rochester OPS, or the Toronto LIC groups. They should be able to answer you. And, if they give you an answer, please let me know what it is.
