Is COBOL still powerful?

Is COBOL still powerful for future applications? How flexible is COBOL compared to other languages like RPG in the iSeries 400? Should I learn other languages except COBOL to follow the future trend?

COBOL is just as flexible (for those who know it well) on the iSeries 400 system. If you already know it, and will only be delivering Green-screen or using it for back-end processing of the Web server, I'm sure it will continue to be supported for a while. If you are developing for the future, I would suggest Java and the Java Tools available from IBM.
