Getting data from a compressed file in an IFS folder into a COBOL file

We have an iSeries 820 and need to get data from a compressed file in an IFS folder and into a COBOL file. I have looked at examples on the Internet but still can't seem to get it right. Can you tell me step by step how to program the process? We have the XML tooolkit on our box. We are at V5.2. Thanks for your help.
In the iSeries information center, check out how to uncompress them. For IFS, I recommend Getting Started with IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries. This article states, "You can treat the IFS in the same way that you treat iSeries files, except the location of the files is different." I took this to mean that there is nothing special that you have to do, but that manual should tell you more about it. Get an existing COBOL program that does file access and point it to the uncompressed IFS file, and it should work!
