Connection pooling middleware accessible by ODBC

Does the AS/400 have connection pooling middleware accessible by ODBC? I have a Visual Basic application, which accesses DB2/400 stored procedures. I have turned on ODBC connection pooling, but it doesn't seem to help. My application times out (in 30 seconds) before acquiring a connection -- even on weekends when the system is not busy.

I made a temporary change to use a global connection and the program runs much faster, but I don't want to tie up AS/400 resources if a can avoid it.

It is possible to pool connection in the Client Access driver. Client Access does not implement any native connection pooling. Connection pooling can be enabled at the OLE DB level for the Microsoft OLE DB provider for ODBC (MSDASQL) and at the Microsoft ODBC driver manager level. it is recommended that you use MDAC 2.1 or later and ODBC connection pooling rather then OLEDB connection pooling.
