Connecting WebSphere to a DB2 database

One user writes, "How can I connect WebSphere on my iSeries to a DB2 database on an AIX machine? We've tried a number of different methods configuring JDBC drivers, but nothing seems to work." Web development expert Jim Mason offered some advice.

Hopefully you are running WebSphere Express v6 which was just released for the iSeries. It is much better than the earlier versions in many ways (function/reliability/connectivity). You can use the newer DB2 universal driver for DB2 on AIX if you are on version 8.x of DB2. The IBM JCC JDBC driver is a type 4 driver that allows a remote application running on the iSeries in WebSphere to access DB2 on AIX.
