Can user passwords in active directory be checked?

System i security expert Carol Woodbury briefly addresses customizing authentication on iSeries.

Hi Carol,
We'd our users to be able to use the same password for iSeries and Windows environment. But we don't want to implement the SSO. Is there some way to check the user password in our active directory? In other words, is there a system exit routine to customize to check this? Thank you for your attention.
No. There is no way to customize where the authentication information is to come from. About the only way to accomplish what you're asking is to synchronize passwords between Active Directory and i5/OS by either purchasing a product that does this or by writing your own utility.
