Advantage to using a PC and OPS Nav
I have just received and read the 4.5 to 5.1 upgrade software installation manual. Chapter 3 asks which type of console is being used and recommends V5R1 Operations Console. We will be using a "dumb" terminal. What disadvantage will we be facing by not using Operations Console?
In my experience, there is no advantage to using a PC and OPS Nav as a console to an iSeries system. All it does is add configuration complication and additional points of failure.
I'll always have a Twinax attached console on the systems I manage until the day comes that IBM discontinues Twinax support and forces me to do something different.
