Tape operations have become a critical area in today's busy IT world. The degree to which the backup and restore functions are performed effectively can have a large effect on the overall performance of a server and all the applications and users supported by it. GST's research and engineering groups have identified a number of operational practices that can optimize tape performance, thereby improving tape backups and restores, regardless of the hardware used. It is amazing how many of these practices are not understood nor followed in a large number of IT installations. They require no hardware or software to implement, just an understanding of the principles behind them. |
