With the desperate shortage of skilled computer professionals these days, it is that much harder to get your AS/400 e-commerce project going. You will have to rely a lot on your own skills and preparation to make the project a success.
Everyone knows that user groups are a great resource for trading AS/400 tips and secrets, but you needn't be limited to your local area, thanks to a growing number of user group Web sites. Many of these sites offer discussion groups, newsletters and information on e-commerce. A bonus is that all of these sites run on the AS/400, providing a good example of the machine's Internet capabilities. Here are a few user group sites worth checking out:
http://www.ignite400.org This is the leading user group for AS/400 users interested in e-commerce. The focus of the group is in this direction, and there are excellent forums for discussing e-commerce issues. This is a national/international user group.
http://www.common.org Everyone knows about COMMON and its popular conferences. But the COMMON Web site also has a fair amount of information on different topics, including e-commerce. This is a national user group.
http://www.tug.on.ca This Toronto-area user group has a site with the group's newsletter and articles, including one on e-commerce this month.
