What would cause any command that displays contents of a file to run slowly?

For example, DSPPFM took over five minutes to come back with its first screen of data. The slow response could include the following:

1. The file has thousands of deleted records.
2. The file has thousands of members.
3. The system is busy with other work.

To determine the cause, issue the DSPFD command to look for the number of deleted records, number of members, and so on.

You can do RGZPFM command.
