The first thing to do before doing a system save is have your CL program issue a command 'PRTSYSINF' and copy the spool file(*LAST) to a data file. You will then have a backup that will include all of your critical system parameters and values. This is especially critical for disaster recovery.

Code

PGM

 DCLF FILE(OUTQPF)
             MONMSG MSGID(CPF0000 CPF9999)
             CHGJOB OUTQ(QGPL/SYSOUTQ)

/* PRINT SYSTEM INFORMATION 'IBM' COMMAND */
             PRTSYSINF
CPYSPLF FILE(QPRTSPLQ) TOFILE(OUTQPF) JOB(*)
             SPLNBR(*LAST) TOMBR(PRTSYS) ENDPGM
