If you have a Domino 6 server machine or a Notes 6 client machine that has the Domino 6 Administrator client installed, you can run Domino Console by executing "jconsole.exe" on Win32 or "jconsole" on UNIX, iSeries, or zSeries from the program directory. This is useful when Domino Console is not started by default on the Domino server or when you want to connect to remote Domino 6 servers from a client machine.

It is possible to run Domino Console from any machine that you might have access to, even if that machine does not have a Domino 6 Administrator client or a Domino 6 server installed. You just need to copy the following files from a machine that is running the same OS as the one on which you want to run Domino Console and that has either the Domino 6 Administrator client or the Domino 6 server installed:
- From the Notes/Domino program directory, copy dconsole.jar and jconsole.exe (on Win32), or jconsole (on UNIX, iSeries, or zSeries).
- Copy the jvm directory and all its subdirectories. Note that Java Version 1.3.1 is the version that is packaged with the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which is shipped with Notes/Domino 6.0.
- In the directory from which you run the jconsole executable, copy dconsole.ini, which Domino Console creates the first time you run it.
If you store these files on a CD-ROM that you carry with you, you can run Domino Console on any machine right from the CD-ROM, except that you will need to copy the dconsole.ini file from the CD-ROM to a directory to which you have read/write access. On the command line, reference the new location of this file by specifying it as the only parameter – for example, "jconsole.exe=d: tempdconsole.ini" -- optionally, you can specify the path to the Domino Console executable and the dconsole.ini will be created in the local directory.
