Complete cleanup for your iSeries system

Are you interested in reducing your ASP utilization percentage, but don't know where to start? Here's a list of commands/functions you can perform on your iSeries system to cleanup all the garbage.

It's good practice to collect disk space information and print the report once every month, or as required. Enter GO DISKTASKS, Option 1 to collect disk space information. This may take several hours to complete depending upon your current utilized ASP. After it completes, take option 2 "print disk space information" (select system summary information for best overall picture of disk space allocation). Go through the report and decide what all you would like to clean and how much space you could possibly recover. Below are some commands that will allow you to clean specific items.

1. To delete old history files use command :WRKOBJ OBJ(QSYS/QHST*) OBJTYPE(*FILE)Press the Enter key. Select Option 4 to Delete

2. To clear QEZJOBLOG and QEZDEBUG output queues ),use commands: CLROUTQ OUTQ(QEZJOBLOG)

3. Verify that system has been set for automatic cleanup. Type command CHGCLNUP & Press F4. Verify that Allow Cleanup is set to *YES. Make adjustments to "Number of days to keep" values as required.

4. To delete journal receivers: Use Command "DSPOBJD OBJ(*ALL) OBJTYPE(*JRNRCV)" to display size of receivers. Use command "WRKJRNRCV JRNRCV(*ALL/*ALL)" and select Option 5 to display the status. If SAVED or ON-LINE, they may be deleted. Note that ATTACHED receivers cannot be deleted.

5. After you delete documents and folders on system, run command :RCLDLO DLO(*ALL)

6. Delete any Installed License Programs that you don't need. (Just to be safe you may save the LPP to tape, then delete). Use command: GO LICPGM .Select Option 12 Delete licensed programs, Option 4 next to License Program/s to delete.

Option 6, Main storage dump manager
Option 2, Work with copies of main storage dumps
Option 4, Delete

8. Delete spool files no longer needed. Then run command:RCLSPLSTG DAYS( *NONE)

9. Clear performance data from libraries QMPGDATA and QPRFDATA. Use command: CLRLIB LIB(QPFRDATA) CLRLIB LIB(QMPGDATA) Note. End performance monitor or collection services before clearing.

10. For physical files with numerous deleted records, use the RGZPFM command.

11. To clear old problem entries from system, use command: DLTPRB Additionally, change system value QPRBHLDITV to specify the number of days to keep the problem in the problem log).

12. Run Reclaim Storage (RCLSTG). Note that system should be in restricted state to run this. Also, the Managed Jobs field on disk tasks report will show the amount of space RCLSTG will recover.

13. You may delete PTF save files on system that you will not apply. Use command:WRKOBJPDM LIB (QGPL) OBJ(QMF*), Option 4 to delete WRKOBJPDM LIB(QGPL) OBJ(QSF*), Option 4 to delete Additionally, you can permanently apply temporary PTFs.
