How many times have we been locked out a system because QINTER was down and not been able to restart it because it was down.

If you have the correct authority within the system, our old friend FTP may provide a solution to this problem.

Any platform supporting FTP can be used, i.e. a PC or another iSeries.

While most systems end QINTER to perform end of day runs, few shut down the TCP/IP server for FTP. By making use of the ability to submit command line instructions, QINTER can be restarted at practically any time.

The command sequence itself is simplicity to type in, the only caveats being:

- The FTP server must be running.
- The profile must have sufficient authority within the system to start QINTER.
- The user must have the ability to use the command line.

Take care -- there may be a good reason why QINTER may be down in the first place - to ensure there's no prospect of interactive jobs locking any objects on the system.

FTP hostname
user-d
password

QUOTE RCMD STRSBS SBSD(QINTER)

QUIT
