Users expect their spooled file to be printed whenever they use a print-option. However, when the printer isn't active or the printer is busy, they will have to wait. To prevent them from becoming impatient and going to the printer while nothing has been printed yet, use the parameter USROPT(*PRTMSG) in their user profile. The AS/400 will send a message if the spooled file has been printed. A message is sent to the owner of a spooled file indicating that printing of the file has either been completed, or held by the printer writer. A message is not sent if another user holds the file.
