This is part 2 in iSeries expert Andrew Borts' tutorial on how to set up iSeries Access for Web. As IT service is moving to browser-based interfaces, System i administrators need to become familiar with their platform's capabilities. You can read part 1, "iSeries Access for Web system requirements,"or go to the table of contents.

After making sure your PTFs are applied and the software is installed, start the Admin server by typing doing the following:

Sign onto the system with "some authority" (*ALLOBJ, *IOSYSCONFIG, *JOBCTL, and *SECADM)

STRTCPSVR SERVER(*HTTP) HTTPSVR(*ADMIN)

After starting this, minimize the session, then open a Web browser and open a browser window to the following:

http://:2001 where is the IP address of your iSeries

Log in with the same user you started the ADMIN server with.

Select IBM Web Administration for iSeries.

Select the Setup tabbed page.

Under Common Tasks and Wizards, select Create HTTP Server.

The Create HTTP Server page opens and prompts for the name of the HTTP server to create. For Server name, specify IWATOMCAT. Select Next.

A page opens that prompts for the Server root path. Select Next.

A page opens that prompts for the Document root path. Select Next.

The IP Address and Port page opens. For Port, specify 2016, then click Next.

The Access log page opens. Select Next.

The Keep logs page opens. Select Next.

Select Finish to create the HTTP server.

ISeries access for Web requires 470 megs of storage on the system, so watch your disk space.
