An ITKnowledge Exchange (ITKE) member recently had a question on FTPing a Out File without using a *SAVF, and fellow techies jumped in on the conversation and helped out. Here is a portion of the conversation. Read the rest of the thread here.

"Rituraj" asked:
I'm trying to FTP an Out File (DSPOBJD of a library) from one iSeries to another. The problem is I cannot use a *SAVF because of an operating system version mismatch between the two systems. A simple "put" or creating an Out File at the target before "put" is not working. Is there any other way to make this work?

"ShalomC" responded:
OS/400 supports transfer of *SAVF between different versions and releases -- up to a point. What is the sending system's version and what is the receiving system's version?

"techlew" responded:
I believe you are running into an issue with the SAV* commands and different versions. You can SAVLIB, for example, to selected previous versions to a *SAVF and then FTP this to the other machine that is at the previous version.

"KajBre" responded:
It is important to know first which operating system release you are using? Are you sure it's not a problem with user rights to be able to create the output file on target system?

Additional help needed: It looks like "Rituraj" could still use some help. Do you have experience in this area? Why not lend a helping hand to a fellow ITKE member.
