An ITKnowledge Exchange (ITKE) member recently inquired about solutions for iSeries, WDSC & WebSphere running on Linux on PCs, and fellow techies jumped in on the conversation to offer some advice. Here is a portion of the conversation. Read the rest of the thread here.

" Formula1" asked:
We are currently evaluating solutions for the iSeries: WDSC & WebSphere running on Linux on PCs. We are down to Aldon and Turnover. Does anyone have enough experience with these two products to compare their strengths and weaknesses in production?

"Sanderson" responded:
We use Aldon/CMS (iSeries only solution). We have had very good experiences with it. It has an intuitive interface, for the most part. The Winders side of the shop still uses Source Safe, so we have no experience with any real tools on that side of the aisle.

"Jacknbox " responded:
Turnover is the easier product to use, but Aldon is more Robust. They are both good products, just make sure you do all the up-front work in setting it up and either will work just fine for you.

" Apothen " responded:
I have worked with Turnover in my previous job, and I work with Aldon in my current position. I think from the perspective of iSeries development, Turnover is a better tool. The process and the environment setup (configuration) is a lot more intuitive than that of Aldon. I think that SoftLanding Systems recently integrated their tools with a PC/Client Server change-management toolmaker called Merant. So you might get a complete package from them.
