DEFINITION - In IBM's AS/400 and iSeries line of computers, CIW (Computer Intensive Workload) is a measure that can be used to compare the workload-handling capability of different computer models when running application programs in which most of the computer processor work is done within the applications.

Another benchmark, CPW (Commercial Processing Workload), is used to compare models in terms of a workload consisting of typical commercial applications. In these applications, relatively more work is done by the system itself in handling database access requests from the application.

CIW also stands for Certified Internet Webmaster.
