Can you recover a down AS/400 to a different AS/400?
Can you recover a down AS/400 to a different AS/400? We have TCP/IP running over Ethernet for each location and SNA lines running at both locations. The user profiles aren't the same at each location and neither are the device descriptions. I would also need to delete some of the existing data on the recovering AS/400 to make room for the down AS/400.Ask the Expert

Backing up the iSeries directly to a DVD device

Storing system documentation on the iSeries
I'm trying to store system documentation on my system, specifically MS Word documents on a shared drive in the IFS. This works fine, but Word always creates a hidden backup of each document which for some reason it cannot delete from the IFS. I have to exit Word, alter the backup to remove the 'Hidden' attribute and then delete it. Why can't Word tidy up after itself on IFS. I'm thinking that the directory is secured by an authorization list specifying *PUBLIC *CHANGE so authority shouldn't be a problem. Is that correct, or is there any way from the iSeries end of spotting (and removing) files with the DOS/Windows 'Hidden' attribute?Ask the Expert

Open ports for ODBC
One user writes, "We had a power failure in the morning when there was no one was on site. The iSeries shut down and then IPL'd when the power was restored. When the offices opened for business, the users were unable to do any ODBC functions. The iSeries TCP servers were restarted and then they were able to perform their ODBC functions. I'm wondering what TCP servers on the iSeries need to be started for any ODBC functionality to work?" Connectivity expert Shahar Mor responds.Ask the Expert
