It was DataMirror's addition of IASP replication to its iCluster 2.1 that helped it receive the silver award.

Fully integrated IASP mirroring facilitates the mirroring of both native and IFS objects stored on IASPs to allow companies using that technology for local single system failure to integrate these devices into their total resiliency solution and enable a wider range of storage options.

"Adding the capability to replicate a customer's IASP environment is a great new function," one judge said. "It enhances the iSeries IASP strategy and meets customers evolving IASP requirements."

The judges also said the product's autonomic management, performance, monitoring and failover support provide key functionality, ease of use and manageability for the customer. Functions that judges were impressed with include the following:

• Performs backups and supports high data volumes without interruptions to mission-critical business applications by mirroring only what's needed.
• Rapidly resumes service from a remote data center in the event of system failure.
• Handles 200 million applied transactions per hour.
• Can reduce full system recovery timeframe from hours to minutes.

DataMirror also added function to existing autonomic functions that enable iCluster to self-correct, self-protect and self-optimize business systems, allowing system administrators to spend less time managing business applications.
