Transfer Anywhere is an enterprise-level tool for data conversion, compression, encryption and distribution that can be used with any platform, format or database in the organization. You may say there are other tools that can do the same thing, but over the year, Linoma has significantly beefed up Transfer Anywhere, concentrating on enhancing encryption, compression and data transfer.

In the February 2005 release, users received more flexibility and programming control when executing transfers from the iSeries. Many transfer attributes, including e-mail addresses, FTP servers, directories and file names, can now be dynamically overridden at runtime.

For customers that need to secure files for transmission over the Internet, the encryption and decryption processes have been improved. Digital signatures can now be encoded in files to protect the sender's identity. In turn, a trading partner's signature can be verified during the decryption process to ensure the file's contents haven't been compromised.

In the June 2005 release, users received the ability to compress and decompress files up to 9 exabytes in size. A password can be specified on the compression functions for better security. And for users who need to send encrypted files to trading partners that use an older version of third-party PGP software, this release allows you to specify version 3 digital signatures. The PGP process can be incorporated into the transfer process.

To increase the security further, users must be given access to Transfer Anywhere. The administrator decides what transfers users have access to and can create.

"While at first glance this appears to be yet another product that takes data from an iSeries system and converts it into XLS form, but as you take a closer look, it becomes quite obvious that the entire issue of transferring data has been well thought out by this company," one judge said.

When it comes to installing and using Transfer Anywhere, the judges gave it high ratings. It takes about 30 minutes to install and then customers can expect to be proficient in setting up and executing transfers in just a few days.
