DENVER - As the iSeries technology expands, so do the applications that run with it. At the COMMON Fall 2002 user's conference, a number of iSeries vendors announced new products. Hot applications include backup and recovery and printing products.
DataMirror, a provider of application integration and resiliency products, announced iCluster V2R0. A single, integrated software solution, iCluster mirrors critical data in real-time from a primary iSeries system to one or more recovery systems and ensures high-speed operational switching in the event of an outage.
iCluster includes an intuitive Java graphical user interface to manage iSeries clusters as well as provide enhanced data and application resiliency. In addition, the product features full support of IFS file mirroring, fully integrated remote journaling support and enhanced trigger support.
Midrange Performance Groupa storage management, capacity planning and performance measurement provider for the AS/400 platform based in Boulder, Colo., announced the availability of Version 8 of Performance Navigator. Version 8 makes Performance navigator fully compatible with OS/400 V5R2. Operating system compatibility now spans from V3R2 through V5R2, the company said. The new version includes LPAR configuration, heuristical model selection and additional trending periods.
LXI Corp., Irving, Texas, has released a beta version of its Media Management System (MMS) backup and recovery software for the iSeries that automatically builds and maintains backup policies, lists and procedures.
In addition to the intelligent automated backups, MMS is able to prioritize the most active libraries in the backup queue. The most frequently used data is the first to be backed up, ensuring critical data is always backed up and recoverable, the company said. MMS also features customized recovery lists and automated recovery.
GO Software, Inc., Savannah, Ga., a provider of payment processing software, announced the release of RiTA Server 2.0, the newest version of its high-powered switch for processing electronic payments in Point-of-Sale (POS), Internet, mail order or telephone environments.
In addition to dial and leased line connectivity options, RiTA Server adds value, the company said, because it is equipped to securely process electronic payment transactions directly through the Internet, which eliminates the need for leased lines and expensive gateway service provider fees. As a result, the merchant receives rapid transaction processing value without paying monthly leased line fees or gateway upcharges.
Enhancements include IBM iSeries Native Dataque API, Concord EFS Internet certification and Vital Processing Dial certification.
Key Information Systems,a systems integration company specializing in storage and high-availability products announced "Zero Downtime Package," in conjunction with IBM's current Green Streak promotion, to help system managers eliminate backup windows and downtime. Zero Downtime Package, is a discounted package that includes an iSeries server, Vision Solutions high availability software and installation for one price.
Key also announced two new e-Labs: one on high-availability and the other on storage area networking using IBM's new Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) Model 800. Key's Zero Downtime high availability e-Lab evaluates the cost versus benefit of employing an HA system to eliminate downtime during backups. The SAN e-Lab takes a look at whether the ESS is right for a given storage environment.
Castel, Inc. announced TelePeripheral, an intelligent telephony peripheral that provides iSeries and AS?400 applications, such as CRM, with full-function calling capabilities to enhance customer contact. The capability is designed to blend seamlessly with an organization's existing voice and data infrastructures.
TelePeripheral consists of a high-performance switching platform that functions as the media gateway to the telphone network, a conection and media protocol CTI link and call management application software. It allows the iSeries server to use information from a corporate database, together with information from the public switched telephone network, to enable procactive customer contact.
