Stan's cheat sheet, or "cookbook" as he calls it, has helped him for many years. He passes on this document as he will soon be looking at retirement due to the lack of jobs in the Portland, Oregon area.

Member has worked on the iSeries for… 14 years on the iSeries with the last 4 years as QSECOFR administrator
Most enjoyed the iSeries for… you can do just about anything with the iSeries in getting input to output in what ever form you need, like the PC and just as friendly.
Advice for other iSeries users: As an operator, all things will get easier as long as you want to learn the power that the iSeries has to offer.
As an administrator, there's no such thing as "can't be done", the longer you think about what needs to be done a solution can be found. It's like being a programmer in that you may need to write a program to get what you are looking for.
Learn and play with Query and if necessary, take a class or get a book on building and using CL programs. The most important advice I can give would be to follow a "standard" in everything you do on the iSeries. Example: files, screens, function keys, CL, COBOL, RPG and leave tips in your coding for the person to follow what you wrote and how you did it.
May 28, 2004 will be my last working day with a great company that allowed me to gain the knowledge on the iSeries.
