With the DSPFFD command you can display file field descriptions. Check out the tips below for help doing this and for an example of how the command is used to organize files.

  • How to get information about your users' profiles
Have you ever wanted to find out which users have not signed on in the past 90 days or how many users are on the system? Search400.com expert Ken Graap shows you how DSPFD and DSPFFD can be used to help you.
  • Display or print file field descriptions
The DSPFFD command on the 400 is quite cumbersome to read through. So, Dannie Weddle wrote a routine that will give the field descriptions and sizes along with a record size summary, which encapsulates the detail found in the DSPFFD command.
  • Re-organizing files based on passed parms
Search400.com member Dennis O'Malley makes use of the DSPFFD command in this tip. The two CL programs in this tip will accept a library name and a user defined 'threshold' as a basis for reorganizing files within a library. The two parms are passed on the call statement.
  • Display duplicate fields command
Martin Cubitt uses the DSPFFD in this tip that includes a tool to compare two physical files and report common fields.
