The COMMON user group has restructured its conference structure, opting to focus on one main conference in the spring and scaling back the fall event to three days.

Outgoing COMMON President Beverly Russell said the change is a result of a 2005 survey showing that Common members were looking for opportunities closer to home on a more regular basis.

So now members can get Web-based education through free Webcasts, and order materials through an online bookstore. The group is calling the new structure COMMON Customized. It starts next year with the normal spring conference, scheduled for Anaheim, Calif., followed by a three-day event in October 2007 in Columbus, Ohio. The spring 2008 conference is scheduled for Nashville, Tenn.

Russell said the fall conference will be members' opportunity to join their colleagues in a more intimate setting. Attendance at that event will be limited.
