To backup the rest of the IFS I created another list that uses *INCLUDES and *OMITS. Omitting all the Lawson directories specified in the first list along with the QSYS.LIB, QDLS and QNTC directories because they are automatically omitted in a global *LINK save:

Using *LNK lists will give you greater control over which parts of the IFS you backup and when. Using these lists along with controlled quiescing of the system should virtually eliminate any "in use" errors while backing IFS directories via BRMS.
