SQL on the iSeries IS fast. I don't do benchmarks any
more but I used to. For "standard" queries, the
performance is excellent. I had one customer where the
CIO had decided to dump the iSeries in favor of Windows
servers. They had lots of VB apps using SQL Server.
When the company had to do a month end close, the tech
staff would "sneak" the SQL tables on to the iSeries and "crunch" the numbers there using SQL because it
was about four times faster than SQL Server in those
