QUESTION POSED ON: 26 February 2003
We have iSeries' we want to backup on one Magstar 3570 drive (room for 20 tapes in the drive). What is the best way to go about this, and where can I find configuration instructions/information?

>

I went to IBM's Web site and searched for documentation on the Magstar 3570 tape drive. I found the specifications for the type of cabling used for this device and then I sent an e-mail to the technical support department of BlackBox.com.

I asked them for a solution to share this tape drive with 3 iSeries' servers.

They provided me with the following information:

Thank you for your interest in Black Box Products. Our 4X2 SCSI switch, SC123A should work with the IBM3570 drives as they are the HVD protocol. If they are LVD or Single Ended protocol, use part number SC122A-R2.

Thanks again for your interest in Black Box products. If you have any further questions, please contact our Connectivity Group at (724) 746-5500, my extension is 5242, or e-mail us.

Wasn't that easy? This whole process only took about 30 minutes too. BlackBox.com may not be the only connectivity provider with a solution to this problem. I just used them as an example.
