From your post, I understand that you use virtual printing. That means you probably use emulation printer session.
Most emulations will let you choose the option to do local translation. That means that the spool will download as an EBCDIC file and will be translated by the printer session.
In order to use this option you should choose host print transform= *NO on the emulation configuration, this may improve your situation. ==================================
