IBM introduced a relational database on system/38 a long time ago. They
developed the database improving its functionalities and introducing SQL.
They then decided to take all their databases under a common umbrella called
UDB. It enables a large number of features to be implemented on their
popular machines without a need to depart from whatever is already
installed.
