QUESTION POSED ON: 15 December 2008
I am trying to setup a HP Deskjet 6988 with a built-in internal NIC to be a standalone printer on the AS/400, either as an remote writer or a IP device.

I am having a hard time getting it to work. When I create the RMTOUTQ and specify the IP, it will allow me to start the RMTWTR but will not allow me to print to the RMTWTR. The spooled file remains in SND status. Can you tell me how to set up my printer as a standalone printer?

My advice would be to not bother with a RMTOUTQ in this situation. If your printer has a built-in NIC, just define it as an ASCII printer on the iSeries and use the host print transform function. Please refer to an article I wrote a while back titled "Sys i Printing: Configure an ASCII printer".
