QUESTION POSED ON: 16 January 2009
We recently partitioned our iSeries so we could have a test partition running patches and upgrades on our software. We attempted a software upgrade on the test partition, which failed and tried to roll it back. Now, it is beyond use and we cannot easily restore libraries to the partition.

What are the steps necessary to take a full system backup from the production partition and restore it to the test partition?

The easiest and most complete way to take a full system backup from the productive partition and restore it to the test partition would be to use option 21 from the save menu to save a complete image of your production partition. Then use these tapes to achieve a full recovery of your damaged partition.

The steps for doing this can be found in the BU Recovery manual.

Pay particular attention to the section, "Recovering your entire system after a complete system loss--Checklist 20."
