QUESTION POSED ON: 14 October 2008
I am trying to find the quickest approach to change the length of one of our core application files. If I change the field using CHGPF manner, do I still have to recompile existing RPG programs and AS/400 queries?

>
Yes, if the CHGPF command (or ALTER TABLE statement) is used to change the length of an existing field, then you would need to recompile the RPG programs and AS/400 queries. The CHGPF command is the quickest way to alter the attributes of your database files, but you'll have to manually process any program recompiles that are needed.
